1. “All my days are themed. Monday is management. At Square we have a directional meeting, at Twitter we have our opcomm [operating committee] meeting. Tuesday is product, engineering, and design. Wednesday is marketing, growth, and communications. Thursday is partnership and developers. Friday is company and culture. It works in 24-hour blocks. On days beginning with T, I start at Twitter in the morning, then go to Square in the afternoon. Sundays are for strategy, and I do a lot of job interviews. Saturday is a day off.”

  7. “I don’t really see the Moroder comparisons myself, but definitely John Carpenter and his engineer, Alan Howarth. They’re just incredible. Part of it is that I use some of the same equipment they were using in the early 80s and late 70s. As for Italo disco and Eurodisco, I don’t know— I’m just making pop music. To me, it all sounds like Madonna and Depeche Mode. It doesn’t sound like some obscure stuff I’ve never even heard of. I’m not a record collector.”

  19. “1971 was something of a year for albums – Faust, Hunky Dory, Who’s Next, Blue, What’s Going On, Sticky Fingers, Meddle, Pawn Hearts, Electric Warrior, Meddle, Muswell Hillbillies, Desert Shore, Maggot Brain, The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys, Songs of Love and Hate, Septober Energy, John Prine, Brain Capers, Runt, If I Could Only Remember My Name, Led Zeppelin IV, Tago Mago, John Fahey: America – but Harper’s ebbing and glowing bold and beautiful four-track masterpiece, is up there with the very best. On certain nights in November, it may actually be the best of them all.”
